    Sold Item Subforum

A few days ago, I wanted to take a look at the For Sale forum .....
It was a bit difficult to find items that were still for sale, because
of the pure number of items left in the forum.

I tried to filter the category by replies (increasing), and found pages
of items from 6 years ago. This method did not work.

I have been trying to think of how we can make it easier for our
members to find gear that has not sold yet. Then I stumbled upon
    this thread.

Even though the former moderator accused Gresh of hijacking the thread
(sort of rude if you ask me), I think that Gresh had a great idea and a
    good solution to our problem.

    --------------------------------------------------------

If the moderators already have to take the time to amend the title
and write "sold", I suggest that it would take less time to just move
the thread to a "Sold" subcategory. This would free up more space
on the For Sale forum, and make it simpler to search for things.

Sure, I understand that this is asking the mods to do work, but I
also contend that it will make their job easier as the For Sale section
will become more streamlined. Once it becomes organized, it will be
    much easier to police.

Going through all of the posts in the For Sale section would take much
time and hassle. Mods could simply rename the current For Sale section
to Sold, and create a new one called For Sale. Then we have one of two
options to re-populate the For Sale forum. First, you could have owners
resubmit current For Sale posts if they still have something for sale.
Another option is just to move the most current unsold items back to
the For Sale section, this would be much less work than moving all of the
sold items out of the section.

Of course, this doesn't need to be done... we can continue on with the
marketplace as it is. I do think that the community would benefit from not
having to wade through pages and pages of For Sale items. Would this
mean that more gear is sold? I think it would attain that.

Or one could use the Advanced Search Function and set date limits to return only current results.

...but what if you're not searching for something?

Personally, I think it's a great idea. I like to just open up the For Sale forum and look about, poking at what may interest me. Browsing, if you will. It's not any more work for the mods (granted we're operating at about 30% efficiency right now since the debacle) to move a thread as it is to close a thread and change the title of it. It'd be nice to just open that forum and know that everything that's there is still available and ripe for the picking.

    Just my $0.02.

The vb software would allow for two possible options. The originator can close (lock) the thread and all closed threads could be automatically moved to the sold category.

well eventually you may get one of your suggestions through. Five started and 4 of them closed down

As far as I am concerned I had rather keep them all in one place. It is really easy to scroll down each page and see what is for sale. I do wish people wouldn't delete their prices as it helps in deciding to see what price to go with Now you could eliminate the three sticky that show up on every page.

Here's annother vote to keep things simple, although I'm not sure what that means.

Personally, I prefer reading through one forum for gear that's for sale or sold.

I do see value in a thread being marked sold and I see great value in leaving the prices posted.

Many times when I am considering selling an item or making a purchase, I scroll through those items for sale and sold for comparison sake. When the price is removed, we lose a helpful resource.

Personally I think it should be all or nothing.

Really it doesn't bother me to leave them where they are now. But I can see the merit in cleaning it up for easier browsing. If we're going to move sold items into a subforum, then they should be required to have pricing left in. Otherwise why bother moving them?

They have no archival value without historical price data. If the price gets removed, they might as well be deleted, as they serve no purpose, and moving them is just shuffling around pointless material and extra work for someone (mods).

So basically my suggestion would be:

    - If an item gets sold and the price is left in the listing, move it to a sold forum for future reference

    - If an item gets sold and the OP removes the price, then delete the thread so no one has to look at it in any forum

That way we have two sections. One for active sales, and one for archived pricing information

Just delete the ones where the price has been taken out and leave the rest as is. Just one post to delete and you are done. I bet just doing that would eliminate a bunch of postings.

No need to delete, move and add a new sold section

    Re: Sold Item Subforum

It only made sense to move them to a sold sub forum. I will hold off on doing this. But let me ask a few questions then.
If the item is sold then why does it even need to stay listed in the for sale forum?
Why does anyone want to waist there time looking at a thread that says [SOLD] because it is no longer for sale and they can't buy it.?
