Snipe and a 3/4 Phoenix Problem

I spent the first night out with my new Phoenix 3/4 40 degree. It was also one of the worst nights out.

I've practiced adjusting the Phoenix at home. It seems very tight on my Snipe compared to hammock and underquilts I've had in the past from Warbonnet. It's so tight that trying to get the underquilt to move toward the head by tightening the linelocs at the head while leaving those completely loose at the foot makes very little difference.

My perfect lay in the hammock ended up with the shock cord at the head coming tightly across my face no matter what I did.

Hammock camping is really getting frustrating. The Snipe has been super comfy without the underquilt and I was excited again about using a hammock. All this fiddling with everything constantly has me thinking about going to the ground yet again, I might be sore in the morning but at least I get some good sleep.

    Thanks for any help,

    Chris

The Snipe is a longer hammock so you will need to add a 8" to 12" bit of shock cord to loosen up the UQ. Snipe is 11'.
    Hope that helps.

Re: Snipe and a 3/4 Phoenix Problem

    Hi Chris,
Shug's is right. That snipe is a great hammock, probably because it IS a bit longer than some of the other ones out there. I will send you out complete replacement cords in the mail tomorrow. Both the primary and secondary lines will be longer. You should have it by Wednesday. Give me a call if you have any problems installing the new ones.

I hope you weren't cussing me out too bad that night! I know those cold nights can be rather long.

No, I figured I wasn't doing something right. You've got too good of a reputation here to cuss you. The under quilt kept nice and warm, just tight across my face.

I have a snipe and just received my 3/4 Phoenix today. I wish I had seen this post prior to ordering. Found this troubleshooting my problem, which is also that the lines seem too tight.

When you say 8-12 inches, I assume you mean adding 4-6 inches on each side? Which would also apply to the primary and secondary suspension?

Ok, seems I need the full 8-12 inches on the channel suspension since it's all one piece. Need 4-6 inches on each ends fixed secondary suspension.

Does this mean I can claim DIY status for the quilt?

I had a similar problem with the irritation of the shockcord on my forehead when using the Phoenix with my Warbonnet. I tried using just the secondary suspension (not using the continuous suspension) and have been much more comfortable.

It took me about an hour but I finally got it dialed in.

Added 1 foot to the channel suspension.

Added 8 inches on each side of the fixed, line-loc suspension.

A few extra knots now, but otherwise not a big deal. Just glad I had some extra shock chord laying around.

Is this something that one would specify when ordering (11ft'r)
or is it up to the buyer to modify?
I haven't seen the option to specify on any under quilt manufactures website so I'm not sure if it's a common problem.
