    Canada>Ontario>Algonquin>EGL Canoe Hang - October 2013 - Algonquin

    Hello All,

It's been a quiet summer, so I suggest we head up to Algonquin Park for a little light canoeing, some fine camp cuisine and some beautiful autumn scenery. After all, there's no better time to be in the Park.

All are welcome. As usual, everyone takes care of their own rations, but I think we might be able to manage at least one big pot of hearty soup, something that would go down well on a crisp October night.

    Options on dates.
    • Friday October 4th to Sunday October 6th (Maybe 7th) (New Moon)
    • Friday October 18th to Sunday October 20th (Maybe 21st) (Full Moon) - My preference

Added in response to Old Boot's query: As far as the destination goes, I was thinking something no more than a two hour paddle away. There's Ragged, Joe, Head (remember that little sylvan spot beyond the camp and over the hill?), Rock (Rose Island), Louisa (long portage = unlikely). And then there's Rain, Daisy, Butt, to name a few. Options are wide open. All I really need are some trees and good weather. One's easy to come by in Algonquin, the other... well, it'll be what it'll be...

    See you out there.

I'm game but will need to hitch a ride in a canoe with someone who can portage it as necessary.

I can manage all my own gear but due to advancing years (I'm not getting old just advancing...), hoisting the canoe over my head is just not possible.

    Where are we going anyways??

That's the spirit!!!!! Yeah, it's been way too long since our last hang, but better late than never! Also, the Park's always so beautiful in the Fall.

    Howdy Old Boot!

Finding a paddling partner isn't usually much of a problem, and we can always work out the portages. I'm of a mind to minimize effort and maximize lounge time after a long, difficult summer.

One of these day's I'll need to get back into Killarney. It's a long drive though.

I'm in so long as there is an empty spot in a canoe for me. I have zero experience solo paddling.

ditto for me. I haven't done much paddling since I was a kid but the trip sounds fantastic. If we can pair up some experienced people with rooks or if the water was fairly flat, that would suit me better.

I wish the best for this trip. I am watching a little green with envy. Perhaps when I am retired and the tradition is continued, I will join you.

    Have fun, enjoy.

Well, the only reasonable answer is a Hammock Forum simulcast live from Canada!! Just kidding!! Seriously though, if ever you find yourself planning a trip to our neck of the woods, drop us a line well ahead of time and we may just be able to get something going.

Really looking forward to fall in Algonquin. The colours and the cool crisp air make for a great backdrop for a trip. I'll be doing my best to get the time off to go. Firming up the date should be done soon so people can plan. I don't have a preference as to the date but need to know which dates for sure so I can book a couple of days off work.

I agree that a shorter paddle is in order. I'm all for maximizing lounging and hanging around time especially after a long drive.
