Underground Quilts made me one,,a sewed thru with 5 oz of down,,works like a charm..contact Paul there and he should be able to make you one. Tell him you want one like he made mine..I also got a snapped foot box with mine,,so far,,had it down to 48 with a 50 degree Te-Wa UQ with a extra ox of down in it. That is as low as I will go,,then switch out to my 40 degree TQ. Total weight of mine is 14.6oz but used stock Ripstop with DWR finish. I would think with newest materials now available,,you can get a lot lower on weight. Talk to Paul as he is super easy to work with.

I have a 40F top quilt from hammock gear made out of Argon fabric that weighs 13oz. You may want to consider a 50F Burrow.

I originally got this idea from seeing a video on YouTube from (sticks blog) lightweight camper. Can't remember his quilt weight but sure that he said 10 oz. Also it was synthetic, I thought down would have been lighter? Thanks for all your help guys.

he may have used the 2.5oz APEX like this, with that and say M50 fabric you should come close to that 10oz mark and 50 degrees

A 10oz summer TQ would be glorious.

If I can pull this off I will be very excited. I guess down vs synthetic? That's my problem now. At that low of weight and material how close would synthetic compress? Anyone have an idea.

For an "average" sized quilt (72" long by 50" wide with a full taper), 2.5 oz APEX and 10d fabric (I used NoBul 1 on mine, from TI Goat), the quilt should pack down to about the size of a large grapefruit/small cantaloupe. I wound up making mine too small (but, fortunately, I work with a guy who's the right size for it, so not a waste), and it packed down a little smaller than that.

Not sure about a down quilt at that size, but I'd imagine it'd be a 10% to 20% difference in size.

Synthetics shine at warmer temperatures, where the shell weight is a much larger percentage of the quilt weight. Once you get below freezing, down is a much more attractive option for weight savings.

    Hope it helps!
