Planning a camping trip to southern Wisconsin for early October....it's an annual thing I setup each year....bunch of dads and our kids (yes we camp in tents....."oh the humanity"). We decided on a group site we've been to in the past and as I recall there is one big tree right in the middle. I could go off site just a bit and hang in the woods but just in case I wanted the option of hanging from the lone tree. So I copied a design for a stand, spent about $12 and built it in about 15 minutes. Tested it and it seems to hold although I might upgrade the 12" nail I used as a stake. It wiggled loose a little after hanging a while and getting in and out of my hammock.

Ripped a 5'10" long 2x6 in half. About 3 1/2" down from the top I drilled a hole for the eyebolt. About 33" down from the top I drilled a hole to put a line through so I can consistently spread the legs (hey now) at 45 degrees. Cut the bottom of the legs at 22.5 degrees so they sit flat on the ground. 12" nail for the stake/anchor. Used some old line I had from a Grand Trunk suspension for the anchor line. I know it's been done and there are many fancy variations but this one is mine, and it was cheap and easy to make.
