My full timer just gets tossed in the washer/dryer every week along with the bedding. The hiker can usually make it the entire season as I'm not sweating that much during our 6 or 7 hangs in the fall/winter/spring. The hiker gets just a wash and line dry
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

    Cleaning Hammocks

I tie my BIAS in a pillowcase and throw it in the washer on cold. Then air dry. Still looks new after more than a year of every night use.

You guys are great and I love all the insight, scented vs. non scented, machine vs. tub, and machine vs. air dry. My big question or concern now is the air drying, do you open up the gathered end to air dry? A little concerned about mildew in the "knot".

If it has an integrated bug net putting it in a ditty bag or pillow case is a good idea. Make sure all the zippers are closed and take the main suspension off. Was in cold water with Woolite and hang to dry. I would be afraid to put one of any kind in the dryer.

If you have a heat pump it should dry out just fine. If not just put it in a hot car or hang it in the sun.

Is it okay to run a tarp through the washing machine as well? Any special care needed for that?

all i would ever do is spray the tarp down the the hose ... i wouldn't want to use soaps or detergents on a tarp it could break down the waterproofing and shorten it's life
