    Hello from Virginia

    Hello all,

I'm 46 now and have had a sore back the last few times I went camping. I'm looking at hammocks as an alternative. I've used hammocks in the backyard durring the day for naps but never all night. I'm hoping to change that soon. I have 3 boys under 8 and they do everything I do, so I actually think my first step will be to make them some hammocks, so that when I make or buy mine I can keep them off of it. I'm trying to set us all up with something on the cheap and will likely start with sleeping bags and pads.

    Cheers

Hello, jbritely and welcome to the forums. I used sleeping bags and pads for a few years until I moved up to underquilts. You can make simple hammocks for all of you in one afternoon. Let the kids help so they can learn "how to".
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Welcome to the forums from way down South.
Remember to use camping fabric hammocks and not outdoors, backyard net type hammocks. Your skin will thank you.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Yes, I bought a South American a few years ago for the backyard and it totally changed my opinion of hammocks. I've been looking at fabric here: http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/p...hable-fabrics/

But enough for the whole family is going to cost me. Maybe I'll look for a bolt.

    Thank you

    Welcome from MD.
Scott at BWDD/DIY Gear Supply is a great source and is highly appreciated here at HF.
You might want to check out the tablecloth hammocks that quite a few of the members have made for themselves. You can buy the blanks directly from tableclothsfactory.com
If you really are interested you might want to try to attend the fall MAHAA group hang. The site is up in the air at the moment, but it is a good chance to check out about 100 different set-ups.

Welcome to the forum, from Ohio. Try to make a group hang so you can see the different set ups. Best DIY hammock to start you and/or the boys would be
http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/ta...Sashes-s/1.htm Go down to the Crinkle Taffeta, pick your size and color. For an adult, I'd go with at least 11' or longer.

Welcome to the forums from SC. I highly recommend attending a group hang, even if you come in a tent or just for a day.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
