    how to treat tarp

What is the best stuff to use for treating a Claytor diamond tarp? I have some seamsealer stuff, but not sure if it will be adequate. Also, it will not work on surface areas other than seams. I need some spray or something.

I am heading to REI today and am planning on getting something.

    Any suggestions?

No, it leaked all over my hammock after two days in the rain. I think it needs to be treated again so I bought some cheap stuff at REI tonight. Something for nylon.

I had the same issue with a McCat last year. However, the McCat is not long enough to cover my claytor anyways.

I spray my tarps at the beginning of each season with a silicone sealer made for nylon. I don't like most seam sealers so I just focus the spray narrowly on the seams saturating them, and it seems (no pun intended) to seal. I have not had leaks for the last 15 years using this method. I did not test my claytor diamond tarp ahead, as I do this as a matter of course.

I sleep better during that first rain of the season knowing I have done my due diligence. There is no better sleep than sleep in the rain because I know there is no place I would rather be than where I am, my nice cozy bed. The additional pleasure of knowing I did the preventive piece necessary to keep the water off me just adds to that great sleep and pleasure.

I've seam sealed tarps with the spray silicone sealer sold at Walmart. Actually Speer recommends the stuff for re-seam sealing their tarps. I would put on several coats just to be sure.

If it's a fairly new tarp it should not be leaking.

    HC4U,
do you recall the name of the spary silicone. recently bought some from walMart not sure if it's the same stuff. At the moment I can't remember the name, but it has a blaze orange cap and only one application is needed...
