    FL>Ocala National Forest>Hidden Pond>9/27-30/2013>The 2nd Summer's Last Gasp Hang

So, it's time to get off of my behind and start planning the second annual Summer's Last Gasp Hang. Last year, a blast was had by all.

I figure Hidden Pond in ONF is a good spot; it's central for everyone and far enough back into the woods that it actually requires an hike in. Parking is available at Juniper Springs (~5 miles to the south of Hidden Pond, on the Florida Trail, gated and monitored, costs $12.72 per night per vehicle) and Pat's Island (~3.5 miles north on the FT, not gated or monitored but 2 miles back off of the main road, free). There are multiple other trail heads on the FT, but those are the two closest.

I figure on hiking in from further out...maybe down at SR 19 again, maybe somewhere to the north (never been north of Pat's Island in ONF...). If anyone is interested, I'm probably looking to put in a 15 to 25 mile day. We can talk...

During the hang, I'd like to put together at least one hike to a nearby spring--either Silver Glen Springs (over by the Yearling Trail at the north end of the prairie) or Juniper Springs. I figure Saturday would be a good day for that, but, again, I'm pretty easygoing on planning.

    Hope to see everyone there!

Sorry, I can't make it. I'm soccer coach for my boys and Thursday is practice with a game on Saturday.

Have fun and make a big fire for me.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Sitting here in Fayetteville, NC at a campground and if the end of Sept is anything like this morning here I'll probably be there.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Unfortunately I can't make it again. That Saturday is National Public Lands day (so pick up some trash on that day folks) and I'm working that day (leading a cleanup day with a short hike). I will make it to hidden pond some day. Maybe we could plan something in December or March?

I will have to run this by the wife, if the heat falls off a little we may be able to come up for Saturday/Sunday.

    That'd be wonderful!

Ahhh...didn't realize that. Sorry for the overlap, and yeah, I'll see what I can find on the way in and the way out.

However, I'm pretty sure I can avoid an HAL 9000 answer to the Marc date; early or mid-March would work for me.
