FYI, do not handle or get caught using alcohol within 200 feet of the tower. Make sure it is in your pack if you are bringing libations. And don't use it until you are well on the trail. Just a precaution, but worth knowing about.

Pursuant to the Secretary of Agriculture's Regulations 36 CFR 261.50 (a), the following acts or omissions are prohibited within the area of the Hickory Ridge firetower within the Hoosier National Forest, Brownstown Ranger District.
1. Possession of an alcoholic beverage, as defined by state law, at Hickory Ridge firetower trailhead parking lot, on the firetower, and surrounding vicinity. See attached map.

These restrictions are necessary for public safety and to protect the National Forest resources. Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50 (e) the following persons are exempt from this order:
1. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
2. Any federal, State, or local officer involved in National Forest administration, law
enforcement,
search and rescue, or fire fighting in performance of an official duty.
Violation of the prohibitions of this Order are punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months or both. [Titles 16 USC 551, 18 USC 3559, and 18 USC 3571]

2. Possessing or using a saddle, pack, or animal except on trails posted or designated for horse use. [36 CFR 261.55 (c)]
3. Entering or using a site when it is posted closed. [36 CFR 261.57 (a)]
4. Possessing any non-burnable food or beverage containers, including deposit bottles, except for non-burnable containers designed and intended for repeated use. This restriction does not apply within 100 feet of Lake Monroe. [36 CFR 261.57 (d)]
5. Storing equipment, personal property, supplies, or leaving camping equipment unattended for more than 24 hours. [36 CFR 261.57 (f)]
6. Disposing of debris, garbage, or other waste. [36 CFR 261.57 (g)]
7. Possessing or using a wagon, cart, bicycle, or other wheeled items or vehicle. [36 CFR 261.57 (h)]
8. Camping for a period in excess of 14 days within a 21 day period, except as authorized by the District Ranger or Recreation Program Manager. [36 CFR 261.58 (a)]
9. Camping within 100 feet of ponds, lakes, trails, or streams except at designated sites. [36 CFR 261.58 (e)]
10. Occupying or using a campsite, trail, or other area by a group of more than ten (10) people within sight or sound of another group. [36 CFR 261.58 (f)]
11. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun except during State of Indiana designated hunting seasons. Target shooting or practicing is prohibited. [36 CFR 261.58 (m)]

I know those regs are "For the good of all" and cover all of the INF wilderness areas, except for the MU's and Nebo, which is slowly becoming just another MU. Enforcement of dirt bikes, four wheelers, and horse traffic, in unauthorized areas, is so remiss, and from a LEO point of view, too time consuming to catch and apprehend in the act. I can't imagine a group of LNTs making even a blip on that radar.
As long as everyone acts and hikes in a reasonable and responsible, state of mind and manner, there is little chance for enforcement, outside of the tower parking lot.

There is a group heading out this weekend to Crescent Valley if anybody else would like to join us to check out the site, weather is supposed to be really nice, most are heading in Friday around 6:30-7pm I think but I will be getting there Saturday about 2 pm

Yes some water, no on the cell phone coverage but there is some at the parking lot.

As of right now, I am planning to come out Friday night through Sunday morning, along with 2 buddies.
If I understand correctly, the campsite is along the same fire trail that goes to the cemetery, but take a left at the first "Y", instead of continuing straight to the cemetery, and it will lead me straight to camp. Is that correct?
Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and spending some time in the woods. Hopefully the weather holds as it was a bit wet last year for my tastes.
