It's not the boulders that throw us off balance, it's the pebbles beneath our feet

Pate Hollow Trail and the Intersecting Whitetail Trail, looke like the old Panther Gap trail. Starts and ends within DNR property or State Park/forest boundaries, which in turn ends you up on HNF property. You are not allowed to camp on the first two, except in designated campgrounds. You can primitive camp in the backwoods areas that run through the HNF.

In short. Yes, you can camp by the lake.

I've not done either trail, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. Good info and maps available @ Paynetown Rec Area.

Be sure and hit us with a trip report. I've never hiked that side of the causeway.

Not sure if you were looking for company or just info, I would be up for an overnight, if you hike out the peninsula, there are a couple of great spots and a really interesting cave up on the ridge, and this isnt far from my house, so i can be pretty flexible.

Sounds like an outing in the making. If it weren't for deer season, I'd be wanting to tag along as well.

Love the Penni trail and Patton cave. Not sure I could still make the crossface, broke my wrist since the last time I tried, and the wormhole exit could be dicey as well, gained a few pounds too

The weather has been absolutely stunning between storms systems, and well worth breaking the rain gear out for part of the hike just to be there when it clears. Might even find enough good water to filter, for the next couple weeks. Have a good one!

Sounds like something to try! Hopefully it's not a horse poop covered mud slick like 90% of the Deam

Edit: just noticed this is foot traffic only, so there you go!
