I will be leaving on Saturday to do a south bound thru hike and wondering if anyone has been up there recently. Are the bugs still bad? Usually by this time I would be thinkin no, but this year has been a strange one. I was up in the BWCA the early part of August and they were terrible. Will I need to take a bug net with me?

My cousin and I were just up there for 2 nights 2 weekends ago.During the day we had zero problems with any bugs! At night we were glad we had our bug nets! It only got down to 60 degrees but when it started to cool off the outside of my net was crawling.
How much does your bug net weigh? Better to have it with you than not. Some stretches of trail might be buggier than others.
Not exactly sure how much it weighs, but it is the fronkey style bug net. I wondered about taking my HH with the zipper mod. Then I get the best of both worlds, it is just heavier. If it was two weeks a later I could probably go without.
