There's a hammock on the book cover

Hey, just got email from BackpackingLight and they are advertising a book: The Boomer's Guide to Lightweight Backpacking: New Gear for Old People by Carol Corbridge. Cover picture attached: Is that a hammock on the cover????

Went to Amazon and it sure enough is. And if you view table of contents hammocks are first on the shelter list, not just little side note. And from table of contents looks like she likes Aarn packs. Carol, good luck with book sales!

Well, if I like hammocks and Aarn bodypacks, does that make me "Old people with New Gear"??
BTW, that would be OK...I've been called worse, much worse

If you scroll through the part of the book that is included beyond the ToC on the Amazon page, you get the hammock section. Turns out Corbridge uses a Clark NA. She acknowledges the comfort of hammocks over the ground and suggests under quilts over pads. Overall, she gives hammocks very high marks and says she doesn't use tents any more.

Might have to order the book just to support her in getting the word out.

    BAM!
the one thing if anything that drives me nuts on BackpackingLight is that most people there turn there noses up at the mere mention of hammocking. My hammock was condescendingly called a "toy" by one thoughtless member. Ha!
(of course, ultralight was condemned by most - not even as long as a decade ago, and many of the nay-sayers are now finally realizing IT WORKS)

btw... Carol Crooker, a fellow Phoenician uses a hammock most of the year. Go Carol!

Carol's book is a really good read.... nice art/page layout too.

Recommended read for the realatively new members of the forum.

asked if she would join us on the AZ hang, she declined as she has a prior engagement. but, the link I have given her may spark some interest, if she hasnt already lurked here before. Carol Crooker did give some input on hammock use, (an HH i believe) over on BPL.
