Avoid the State Parks or stealth, that's what I did down there.
I think most folks would just use their trekking poles (another good reason for them) when forced to use the hammock as a ground bivy. I refuse to even consider it as an option, but I'm sort of stubborn.

Me too. but they keep doing the "controled burns" and I use that term loosly, and ya never know what to expect. Our last hike looked like the dark side of the moon. thanks
Where are you hiking? On the FT? I hate those burned-out areas. I did a section near Route 60 (River Ranch) that was burned-out a couple of years ago. Bad stretch in the heat of the day.

The last bad burn hike was at Jonathon Dickenson State Park. Fire got way out of control.
