    Help with overnighter

Hey everyone, how's it going. I am planing a short overnight trip on the 28th of this month and I am looking for some suggestions.
Me and some guys from work want to do a short trip somewhere close to home. Home is in Powhatan, Va which is under two hours from parts of the AT. We are not sure where to go so if anyone here has knowledge of the area and has a nice overnight hike please post up and let me know. This will be an out and back and because of a late start no big mileage. Much appreciated.

I have done backcountry overnighters in Shenandoah National Park at Land's Run (northern section) and Hughes River (central section).

For the Hughes River, park at the Old Rag parking lot, check in at the Ranger Station there and then just hike up the Hughes River a few miles until you find a nice spot. There are established campsites about 1 mile up from the park boundary. Plenty of water from the river. Being backcountry, no open fires, you will need to use a camp stove of some sort.

Another resource for SNP are these trail maps. With a hammock you can backcountry practically anywhere you like. Just check with the Rangers when you get your free backcountry permit.

Thanks everyone! We are going to do the priest or three ridges from the parking area on rt. 56.
