Nice job! Not many zipped buy nets on DIY hammocks, so an ambitious project.
When I've camped in 'real bug country', nothing but a zipped enclosure would do the job for me. One mosquito in my ear is enough to ruin the night!
And those 'North country' bugs are determined and hungry - if they can get through a tiny hole in the bug net, they can certainly get under/around a non-zipped net....IMO, IME.

I know that with the tablecloth hammock crowd, if you get the 90" wide tablecloth you could probably do it. I'm 6'1", have a 90"x135" hammock and I could do exactly what you described. I'd probably sew up about 1ft on each end with some triangle scraps to reinforce and to shorten the length the zipper would need to be, but I could do it.
