Heat Shrink Tubing on Zing It and Amsteel

I have started using Heat shrink tubing on the ends of my Amsteel and Zing It to keep it from fraying. Also looks neater.

Has any body else tried this and what were your long term results ?

Any specific reason to use shrink tube instead of a backsplice?

Or you could just tie an overhand knot on the end and be done with it. It's small, and looks really good IMHO.

Smear super glue on it before you put on the shrink tube. Done and done.

Most of the time, I do nothing, and let it fray. The resulting "soft" bitter end is much less prone to tangles. It looks awful, but then, beauty is as beauty does.

    I have done that too

I will try it the next time.

    Thanks

If you can find it there is a version of heat shrink with meltable glue inside used for wet work. The heat that shrinks the tube also melts the glue. Pretty much indestructible after that. ;-)
    YMMV

What's the reason you can't splice it?

For Amsteel I've used a metal coat hanger and scotch tape to do all my splicing to date. This may work for lash-it/zing-it too. Or a piece of bare small diameter wire.
