    Hello from northern S.E. Michigan

Presently I camp 1700's style, if it wasn't around in the 1700's I don't use it. I sleep on the ground, on a bear skin with a wool blanket.

I never heard of hammock camping until a week ago. Since then, I've been watching hammock camping videos and doing research on this type of camping. I'm thinking about getting into this type of camping, but I want to do it right and buy my equipment one time. I don't want to be in a rush and buy something only to learn it's not what I should have gotten.

I'm open for any suggestions. I've already learned; being 6'5", I can't just buy a normal size hammock.

The reason for getting into hammock camping; it seems each year the ground gets harder on my back and hips. lol

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help.

    Hello from northern S.E. Michigan

Sounds like you wouldn't mind DIY. I'm 6'4" and have made almost all of my gear. The DIY forum here is an incredible resource.

Hello and welcome to the forums from Indiana. If you go to the Venders section, there are several that can make you a hammock or you can go the diy route. It's very easy. Sailors used hammocks in the 1700's.
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Welcome to all the fun...from Jackson, Michigan

BTW: We have a big hang coming up at the end of Sept in GR at Deep Lake Campground. That would be a good chance for you to come try out a lot of different style of hammocks.

    Tents are welcome

Thanks for the invitation, but that same weekend, I have a historical encampment at the Algonac State Park. I'll be doing a brain tanning demonstration, so I need to be there.

Welcome from Ga. If you go DIY or with a vendor is your choice. I myself like the 11ft hammocks. I'm only 5"11. Either way. Welcome to the comfort!!
