Merchants Mill Pond State Park NC

Got a rare 3 day week end so I just booked a camp site at Merchants Mill Pond State park for this Sat afternoon - Monday.

Will be at the family campsite # 18 if anyone is in the area and wants to drop by.

Great spot. Wish I could join you. Say "hi" to my favorite gator and water moccasin.

We have camped there in the winter time so this will be the first time we will be there in the summer. We do plan to go canoeing and hoping to spot a gator or two. I believe there are mostly copperhead around there.

MMSP gator ... usually located on the log about half-way out to the camping area.

Told the wife what you said about the snakes and while she is not afraid of them, she is worries about stepping on one in the dark. I am hoping to see a gator. I have yet to see one here in NC (have seen plenty in Fl)

When she was a small kid she saw what she thought was a fake snake one of her brothers had left in the bathroom, she petted it and when it opened its mouth, she realized it was a real snake, turned out to be a water moccasin.

Figured I would also check out the group camp site for a possible group hang.

The Outer Banks Kayak Club does an annual trip to the MMPSP group canoe-in campgrounds every spring (that's where the pictures come from). It's a good spot for a group hang, also.

Sounds and looks like a great place to hang.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.
