A Tree You Don't Want to Hang a Hammock On

I took this picture on a hike I did on the AT in East Tennessee. I can't remember where on the trail but I know its here local. I got kind of spooked when I saw it. Part of my imagination kept waiting on the tree to say something or open its eye. There's no way I would hang my hammock on this tree or anywhere near it. Some trees are best left alone...

“Ancient beyond reckoning, Treebeard the Ent is one of the last of his dwindling kind, the long forgotten tree shepherds of Fangorn Forest who once strode throughout the woods of Middle-earth.

That tree looks like something wants to jump off of it and eat you.

We thought this was spooky cause it looked like a serpent or maybe a 'gator rising up from the underbrush.

But think about how much gear you could have it the tree did the hiking for you. Hang all day and still cover 20 miles.

I saw one off of Welch Ridge Trail in the Smokies.... It was a massive old tree with two huge boles like that right at ground level... right next to each other. It looked very phalic.

We nicknamed the tree Father Earth.
