    Hoodie Tarp

Just mounted a hood for a standard asymmetrical tarp, so I can use it as a rain cape.
It stands in the middle of the greatest length. It's no good if you don't have a backpack, cause ends of tarp tend to trail along land. Though with backpack it's perfect.
Now, all I have to do is add a zipper or buttons on the other side of hood.
Also fitted a thin piece of plastic into the hood, for a better view out.
Must say that stitches didn't come out as good as i hoped, but there's lot of potential.
    Tarp is rectangular, 2,9x1,45 metres.
Tomorrow morning it'll get a zipper or buttons, haven't decided yet. If zipper, it's going to be 70 cm-s in length.
And if I'm (not) lucky, i'll get to test it in rain.

    Dimensions of a hood:

    Hope you like it.

An excellent idea and great job on the construction and plans. Making a decent hood has always eluded me for some reason. Now, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
I got in a fight one time with a really big guy, and he said, "I'm going to mop the floor with your face." I said, "You'll be sorry." He said, "Oh, yeah? Why?" I said, "Well, you won't be able to get into the corners very well."

Added a 70 cm waterproof zipper. Now i'd like to make some straps for hands, about 2/3 of shot lenght side.
Without them the ends are tragged along road and look handless.
If that's done, i may think of adding a pocket for ropes to but somewhere whilst it's used as a raincape.

Hope You'll understand this scheme :P

    OK. Now it has wristbands:

    Picture of it:

Also the hood can be used for packing:

I think the idea is almost ready. If the next two days are rainy, it's going to be all my raingear.

That looks great! Did you make the tarp yourself and add the hood later, or was the tarp a purchase? I'm just asking because it looks like all the material is matching. Thanks!

    Really nice!

I like that so much better than having the hood in a hole in the center. Great idea!

As far as the extra length without your pack, I have a poncho tarp that has snaps and velcro to make a fold to shorten when no pack is worn. Like this..
http://www.equinoxltd.com/the-gear/t...ho-shelter.cfm With the long size the back is shortened by creating a fold.
Gentle raindrops and mighty oceans...neither can exist without the other.
Time heals all wounds...but it usually leaves a pretty big scar.

    Made tarp myself.

It covers me good in rain, but for the hammock it could be little bigger.
In the morning I was dry, but some parts of hammock were little soaked.
Thinking of going back to hexagonal tarp and trying to add a hood for that. May be little tricky because of it's size, but let's see.
This was first time for me to camp with so small tarp, had problems fitting my backpack under the hammock with good rain coverage, but i'm no light trekker. Backpack is sized for 110 Litres and it was heavy rain in this weekend.
