    Country of manufacture

    Hi all,

I am trying to source some bulk fabric, mostly ripstop nylon at this stage, which in Australia is proving quite a challenge. My sister used to live in China and there is a possibility of a friend of hers will assist me get some fabric from there, as he is a tailor I believe, and imports to Australia.

My question is where is most of the fabric people use on here manufactured?

I'd bet most people don't know. I only know country of origin for a couple pieces of my rip stop, and those are from Egypt. I'd love to hear if anyone else has any other country of origin tags.

    +1 this.

I have heard one tent manufacturer say that their silnylon and nearly all sil comes from China.

Looking up some retailers, Joanne's fabrics has ripstop listed as being from China, but then on their website, some other varieties were listed without a country of manufacture.

Magna Fabrics state on their website
Where are your fabrics made?On the online store, we feature only fabrics that are made in the USA. We've maintained long relationships with our suppliers, the very best of the American mills, and we feel extremely comfortable and confident with their fabric. In addition, by sourcing in America we can feel very good that the workers are both making living wages and working in safe conditions.
On Amazon's website says that their .75oz kite ripstop is US made, but I didnt get much further into looking for other types of rip stop.

Most of it is from China, but there are still some American fabrics around. Mostly 30d and up. I would venture to guess that 99% of the sub-30d nylons are from over seas.

Westmark is where most of the 30d nylons we use are manufactured I believe. You can buy over runs and 2nds directly from them.

    Thanks.

Most of the heavier fabrics, 70D and up, I can source in Oz are from China or Korea it seems. Sourcing lighter fabrics is proving more difficult.
