I just wrap the tie out once around the hand grip. The tension has kept it in place for me, as well as the contour in the grip.

OK... I'm getting old. Can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning so no wonder I can't remember where I bought these... found this link in an old email though:

The little hats do look kinda cool though. I can see the appeal its just not my cup of tea.
trailsticks work.
I also didn't like the handles in the dirt or the sharp pointy end being a potential hazard. Also, dirt and water seemed to get into the shafts.
So, I put the poles into the ground, pointy end down. Wrap the guyline around the handle and stake it out.

Trekking Pole Cups
These triangular fabric cups go over the handles of you trekking poles and make propping your tarp up very easy. They can be looped on to any tie out, and can be moved around as needed for different set up configurations. They are made from black 2.92 oz/sqyd hybrid cuben fiber fabric and are very sturdy.
Price: $3.95 each
Weight: .1 oz each.
Hi big D, thoser pole pockets are a pretty cool idea.
I've always tied my pole handles to the tarp tyout lines with a clove hitch.
