Went backpacking with Half-Hitch to Panthertown Valley NC last weekend, Aug 23-25.
Weather was perfect, no rain, 45 degrees at night 75 during the day. It was a great camping trip.
This was the view from our basecamp in front of Schoolhouse Falls.
We hiked to 3 other waterfalls over the two days.
You can walk behind the waterfall.
Here is a view from the side and from behind.
On Saturday, we hiked up Little Green for this view.
We hiked down the other side to the Mac's Gap Trail and headed west toward Granny Burrell Falls
There are a lot of excellent campsites along the Mac's Gap Trail, especially between Granny Burrell and the Panthertown Valley Trail.
Here are a few examples.
There was another really nice double site where Power Line Trail connects to the Panthertown Valley Trail.
This is one of the two sites, side by side, on a creek, just about 50 yards up Power Line.
On Sunday, we hiked to
Jawbone Falls
and Riding Ford Falls
This was just an incredible weekend.
We just scratched the surface of all that this gorgeous place has to offer.
I plan to get much more familiar with Panthertown Valley.
I have attached a PDF map of the area. It's best if printed on 11 x 17 in color.
