Is that a purpose built destructor or are you using a jury rig?
I work in backstage theater and I've worked with guys that say that a lenth of aircraft cable braded back into itself to make a Sunday is rated for 2000 lbs. I think they are crazy and have been in more then one screaming match when I wouldn't let them do it on my build. If you get a chance it would be an interesting experiment to check.
Oh no, I built this 4 years ago to purposely test straps and hardware. It's calibrated and hooked up to sophisticated software which draws several kinds of graphs using MS Excel. It's the same software used by some huge corporations for documenting testing. I only use it with the software though when I am documenting breaking or proof loads.
I know 1/8" aircraft cable is good for 2000 lbs but it's hard to believe that it would hold 2000 braided back into itself. But! I've had many surprises while testing stuff.
If I knew how to braid it I could check it out. I have plenty of 1/8" aircraft cable but usually use a thimble and swag. Anyway you could send me a couple braided loops to check out?

Another bump for this thread, as it's moved so far down that I think people have missed it. Lostinspace has done a few of these videos and they're very informative tests.
