Very cool idea, my wife who is doing the sewing on my new double layer hammock has described to me a very simuler idea about making one for herself,
Yours turned out very nice and looks good,you would still have to have another hammock for warmer weather but for the winter camper it looks like it will do the job just fine.
Good look on your endevour
I would not mind having one of these but they are not in the budget right now, $515.00 , besides we are finding great satifaction in making our own gear

What is the loft height?

Thanks Ductape! that's a good analogy lol! I haven't had a chance to explore the low temp range yet [the wife keeps catching me as I unload the deep freeze] just down to 30 with a prototype back in the spring but, I've used it all summer with some surprising results! I've slept comfortably at a nighttime high of 65...just pulled the zipper down and was comfy! And I'm a pretty warm sleeper!

Loft is 4 inches.

Oh my God, that's amazing.

It's far, far outside my price range (but reasonable for those who would be buying a hammock, underquilt, and top quilt (or peapod) all at once), but for the sake of curiosity is it possible to make it in double layer 1.9 (for those of us who are on the thicker side) and how long is it?

Very nice and pretty ingenious idea. It's like a suspended mummy bag. I like the feature of being able to put a pad in it also. Bravo! I wish you good luck, you put a lot off thought into that hammock. The only other thing I could think of would to also have some type of bug netting incorporated but, I looks as if it is more for the cooler weather so that might not be an issue. I also like the fact that you can either have your head inside or outside but still have it zipped up so you don't loose any heat. I have always preferred to have my head out and would most likely use a down beanie or something like that. Way to go.

Wow! Thanks Gresh!! Yes a double layer would be no problem..and the length comes in at 9ft with a 54 inch hammock body.
