Someone should start a thread to find out how many people have had to replace their SuperShelter OCF pad.

    Mine is in great shape!

I think you already did start that thread! I probably should replace mine after 2 1/2 years. It has had several holes poked through it. But, I just applied a little seam sealer to those spots, and though ugly, it is still quite functional. I just try to not look at it. It feels about the same as when new. But the kidney and torso pads are still like new! And the original SB is still fully functional, though I have replaced it with he HeatSheet.

I think the life span might be increased if you leave it in after first installing it, and just stuff the entire thing in a large stuff sack. Also, I think the zipper mod MIGHT help protect the pad, since you won't have to contact it every time you enter and exit, or readjust it after entering.

1 year, 50+ nights on mine

I bought mine almost exactly a year ago and I've been a hiking machine in the last year. Spent 50+ nights in my hammock/SS.

Mine has 1-2 holes from brush poking at it, and lost a thin film of foam in one spot on my February winter hike when I had some frozen condensation and pulled the OCF pad still frozen off the UC.

They are a little fragile, but it seems like most of the wear and tear is cosmetic. The small holes, etc. seem to have little impact on the insulating capability.

So, what's your opinion in the case of a thru hike where a person would be using it roughly 180 nights in a row over a 6 month period?

Mine is 3 years old, but has seen little use compared to Kurt. I wouldn't expect mine to be worn, but I am interested in knowing if anyone has had to replace one.

Cannibal, I'm sorry to have been short... it wasn't to challenge your statement. This is the place to find out, so I thought I would ask!

No worries, I didn't see it as a challenge. Now, if it were to have started out with something like "Your mama is so....", them maybe we would have to go out to the parking lot at recess.
