    Finished the SF pole mod

Thanks to cpverne I got my pole mod some to my SF. I really like it, it blows the tarp out and makes it huge! It's already big but man this thing is huge now.

I ordered the stuff from Quest Outfitters and I had it a few days later. The whole thing did not take very long, it was real easy.

Just wondering... any final cost and/or weight measurements?

    Looks like a nice solution.

Thanks everyone! Total cost was around $50 and a little bit of my time. I am not really worried to much about weight and I have not weighed any of it. If you search cpverne's post you will find everything, all the information. I think it is in the warbonnet section.

How much force is being put on the pullouts would you estimate? I liked the looks of this mod, ever since I saw the first one. I have been interested in trying it but just wonder if anyone that has been using it for some time has noticed any wear in the pull out area?

I would say there is a lot less force with this mod than there is when I am using line and have it all guy'ed out.

I'm always concerned about stress on the pull-outs, and even before I put together a pole set for my Superfly, I added a short loop (3") of heavy shock cord on the tarp's pull out loops to connect my tie-out lines with. On each of those loops, I have the female half of one of Dutch's "quilt clips" (http://dutchwaregear.com/quilt-clips.html). I have the male halves rigged onto my tie-out lines so I can simply snap them on when I need to use them.

For the pole mod, I just added some very short pieces of 2mm utility cord with about a 1/2" loop at the end for my pole ends to go into. These are attached to the shock card loops on my tarp's side pull-outs. If I want to use the conventional tie-out lines, I simply clip them on. If I want to use the poles, I just slip them into the cord loops. Either way, the tarp has some stress protection provided by the loop of shock cord that the poles or tie-out lines are connected to.

    Take it easy,
