I would just order it from Ed Speers. He lives in NC and has just what you need. OWF is way out in Idaho and they usually ship UPS which comes by wagon train...lol.

Ring buckles are the bestest! Here is the know-all-be-all thread on the topic. 4th one down ("WPE1”+color Woodland Green") on OWF is my current favorite. Not cause it's camo, I'd prefer black. This one is just nice and lightweight. 1" is fine double wrapped around the tree. I would suggest at least 11' on each end of the hammock.
Can't go wrong with Ed! Strange to be closer to Idaho than NC these days.

there is a plethora of information on the ring buckle/cinch buckle systems in the suspension systems forum. Also justjeff's site does a good job of explaining the various suspension systems.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

thanks all, I checked out the ring buckle links and figure I can make them.
Also....... my brain just clicked into gear and remembered that I have a whole bunch (a roll) of something called "muletape" out in the garage. Say's on it 1800 LB , so can I use this for the tree straps??? Maybe wrap around the tree twice because it looks like about 1/2 " wide. ???
Hi,
Lots of good information but.
I am making a set of tree huggers. I have a big tree in my backyard that is one end of my Hammock Hanging spot. I need a tree hugger a total length of near 68" to go around that tree and have a tail about 8" long to attach the cord coming from my Hammock.
I am trying to decide what a good length should be.
Has anyone come up with a "good enough" length for them. I am going to use my Hammock while hiking on the AT.
I want my tree huggers long enough but not longer than necessary.
Thanks.

I don't think there is a number that you could come up with for all situations. A good length for your backyard seems to be about 78". That will be way too long in most situations in the real world and not long enough in some situations in the real world. Make them whatever length you feel like carrying knowing ahead of time that if you find yourself between 2 trees where your huggers won't fit that you'll have to move on to plan B.
Not very difficult finding small diameter trees along the AT. I think there were 3 or 4 times that I had to walk another 100' from where I wanted to camp to find a good set of trees. Usually it was due to me being too lazy/tired to look very hard.
