    Quick Set-Up and Tensioning?

Just watched this video on youtube by Jimmy McSparron, who makes quite a few videos on his hammock techniques.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iJTjful66M

In this video he uses a pair of aluminum rappelling rings on a carabineer to quickly attach his stock harness to the tree straps. Does anyone use this? Surely with two carabineers and four rappelling rings there will be some weight gain to the standard system. I'm considering adding these to my girls' Scout hammocks to make it easy enough for them to set up and tension the hammock themselves.

    Thoughts appreciated.

Warbonnet uses something similar to that. they are easy to use and adjust though for me speaking solely on the warbonnet setup I found them to be a little more difficult to loosen. I have switched to whoopie slings which work better for ME. You might find different results.

Carabiner to strap ends and rings on 'biner direct to the hennessey suspension rope? I bet my gals would love the simplicity.

Not for the weight-conscious backpacker, clearly. But quick and easy--gives the feeling that you're tying knots. Thanks for sharing. I had not seen this guy's videos before.

This simple, yet effective method would really make my girls happy that they were doing their own rigging. One is getting pretty good at the figure eight lashing knot already, but often says "is two eights enough?" and I have repeatedly said, "nope" so she will do the third.

Glad I could lead you to something new to watch Pips. Enjoy!

    Good ideas in that video.

Clipping two rings into a carabiner: I think you will get better results with an oval biner, rather than the D biner shown. It should make the rings 'lock' better and also be easier to release.
    Something like:
    http://www.mec.ca/product/4008-647/b...nd-oval-biner/
    http://www.mec.ca/product/4004-144/p...rewgate-biner/
    http://www.mec.ca/product/5015-876/petzl-owall-biner/

You can get very light pulleys that work with oval biners - handy for pulling stuff up a cliff or into a tree.

FYI-Oval biners are about 60g each, descending rings about 10g or so. Nano D biners are about 30g.
A concern for the lightweight enthusiast, no doubt.
A system that's quick to put up (in the dark/rain/bugs/with kids) is worth a few extra grams, for me.

I bet a Ready Strap quick draw with the two rings sewn into one of the end loops would be awesome. Might have to send off an email!
