    Cool Florida Hangers

Florida is an awesome place to hike & hammock. My favorite place is probably Ocala national forest. You just cant beat the beauty of the open fields of palmetto in the morning with a little fog lifting. Its breathtaking especially from the comfort of the hammock haha If you are a Florida hanger please share your favorite spots and any cool or funny stories you have about a FL hang. -Matt

Welcome aboard from Lakeland. Hangs will be starting up at the end of Sept with the Summer's Last Gasp
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=78607
Then there will be a few before the 4th Annual Florida Hang on MLK Jr weekend. Not to be missed! Probably 100+ hangers this year
    https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=77085.
Followed up by a few more in the spring before the heat returns. Most are in the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest and Green Swamp.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

I'm lucky... by far my favorite place to hang is at the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest. My second favorite place is "wherever the rest of our gang is hanging" because we've got such a great group of people that I enjoy hanging out with (third place is so far down the list that it might as well not even come to try-outs )

My favorite funny story is lilricky and Great White taking the scenic route back to the campfire from hanging their food bags We always have such a great time together.

    Welcome to HF!
Our favorite place is to pull up along the Santa Fe River and just tie any two trees together.

From what I have learned, about anyone you hang with down there is "good folks", I'm sure you will find the same.

It sounded like we were being circled by Bigfoot.

Any hangers in the Destin area? My son is about to move there and I would like to see him hooked up with a group if possible. We have family in the area but they do not camp.

I live in Crestview; about 35 miles north of Destin. Mostly hang when I'm out with the Boy Scout troop. There isn't an "organized group" of hangers in this area to my knowledge.

I'd advise that he gets dialed in to the Florida Trail Association in this area when he gets here and tap into that knowledge-base as well.

There are an unlimited amount of places to hang around here.

Hard to pick a favorite spot to hang in Fla, I enjoy all of them. I think I'll have to agree with Samsara and say Lake Wales Ridge St Forest - some very good memories (and great friends!) there. But I like Bayard Point Conservation Area too, camping right on the St Johns riverbank. And of course Buck Lake. And Black Creek Ravines, and.... ....I cant decide!!! They are all good!
