Im thinking about buying a tadpole, 12' rl and possibly with pullouts. I am used to more of a square shaped tarp and worry the slanted sides of the Tadpole wont give me the best coverage in a serious rain. Does anyone have this problem?

Nope.. Plenty of coverage.. Unless you have gusty shifty winds.. Then your setup skills are important, and you have an option of doors as well...

I see, so not that much different than a more square tarp then? In this small of a tarp would the side pullouts be useful? I know on my OMW it makes a work of difference.
I would opt for the pull outs. They are nice to have in the wind and really open up the tarp more than you would think.
I've been in some pretty nasty storms and my tadpole keeps me nice and dry.

I just recently got a Tad Pole with the pull outs and in my opinion it really is worth it. Whether it's to open it up a bit more or to help keep the walls from blowing into you during high winds. (both of which I have recently have done) Haven't had a monsoon type down pour yet but have had some good rains. Like Caveman has said...never let me down and always dry!
Had my Tadpole set up for over 2 months this summer in Maine and the first 3 weeks there was almost daily rains. I don't have the tie outs but it was in porch mode the entire time. Rode out one of the heaviest thunderstorms I had ever seen in Maine. It was awesome watching the lightening while laying in the hammock. The only moisture I experienced under the tarp was an exceptionally heavy fog which the bugnet trapped.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
I got caught in a downburst and torrential rains last weekend under my tadpole. I wish I had the pullouts because the tarp was blowing against me in the 30-40 mph winds. But I stayed completely dry. Rain gauge at the house close to where I was staying showed 7" for the night.
Dont have a tadpole but as far as the pullouts I would rather pay the couple dollars and have the option of using them or not.
+1 on this. Really adds next to nothing for weight and great option to have. Spent the weekend under mine, no rain but a ridiculously heavy dew overnight, dry as a bone underneath.Originally Posted by Jayson
