What material for heavy hanger?

I got commissioned to make some hammocks for Xmas presents. One of them is for my brother in law, who is 6'2 and around 250lbs. What kind of material should I use? Weight and bulk should not be an issue. I think 1.1 ripstop single layer is out of the question, but is a double layer 1.1 sufficient? I want it to be durable as he is a large guy and may not be as careful with gear as I am. I've seen sport utility nylon at Joanns, not sure of the weight, has anyone experience with this material? I do not believe it is ripstop.

According to this chart by dream hammocks a 1.1 double layer should be fine.

If weight isn't an issue, a single or double 1.9 will give more durability. I've never heard of it, but maybe a 1.9/1.1 double for holding a pad...

I've made a couple of hammocks for big guys and I used 1.9 ripstop and double layered it. I also used cinch buckle suspension from Ready Strap. I know a Whoopie would have held them but they didn't feel safe.

The 1.9, 1.1 dl makes a more than strong enough hammock with a softer feel. Warbonnet does one. A dl 1.1 will do the job though. I'm almost the exact same size I use a XLC 1.1 dl. I strongly suggest you make the man an eleven footer. Difference is amazing for me. A plus with a heavier bottom layer is more prints, camo and such.

I'm using that JoAnn Fabrics utility ripstop as I type, and I'm a big guy (about 6ft, 300lb or so), and the single layer has held me up fine. But I am also very careful not to flop in it, and make sure things like pocketknives, belt buckles, etc, are out of my pockets to avoid rips. I'm under no delusion that a a small tear might mean a very unpleasant fall.

6'1", 275lb A single layer of taffeta tablecloth will do it, I have a 90"X132" or 156" I can never remember but, I also have a double layered 60"x126" that I do not believe will ever fail me. You can get em here: http://www.tableclothsfactory.com/ta...Sashes-s/1.htm

They're pre-hemmed this way and cheaper than ripstop. They also soften up a bit after a couple washes, but they should be washed before being used anyhow.

I vote for tablecloth as well. If weight and bulk are not an issue, the crinkle taffeta is hard to beat.
