Here is a video from a member (Xtrekker) showing how to make a set for a hammock suspension. but you can easily use one for a structural ridgeline.

Also you are correct about GTUL, all the acronyms on this forum can get a little overwhelming but here is a good reference.

Yooz...if you're going to use a lot of Dynaglide, Bishop Co. has the pricing.

My first whoopie took me about 40 minutes- following along with the video from above (great vid, by the way). The second one was faster, maybe 25 minutes to do it.

I think I'm going to skip the UCR ridgeline and go ahead and just make a really long structural whoopie ridgeline instead. I don't see the point of the UCR versus the whoopie. It seems to be 2 pretty equal ways to do the same thing.

If I have enough cord left over, I'm gonna make some whoopies to hang my tarp. I'm gonna need more Amsteel. I should have bought 100 feet!

My first rule for buying amsteel...never buy less than 100'.

    My second rule...200' is better.

So while sitting here watching the Braves at the Fins (great game, you should be watching, too), I made myself a whoopie ridgeline.

Honestly, doing the shop drawing and the math took me longer than making it! 3rd whoopie and I'm a master! With a hammock measuring 11' 6" (138 inches), I need a ridgeline somewhere around 114.5 inches (83% of 138 inches).

So starting with 183 inches of 7/64" Amsteel, I made a 3" locked brummel on one end, to a fixed length of 83.5 inches, then a 14" bury ending with an adjustable loop to adjust between 2" and 26". At its longest, the tail sticks out from the bury 5".

The ridgeline can now adjust to between 102.5 inches and 126.5 inches, which should get me in the ballpark.

    I'm stoked!

This one was my go to-

step by step instuctions, but my only advice since i'm still a noob to splicing, is just take your time don't rush through it!

p.s. I used a B string from a guitar, the high E had to much flex and the wound cords catch when making the burys.

That video was also my go to vid,got it saved on my pc from the first time i saw it.
The problem with making your own whoopies is after you make a set you want to make another and another and so on----
