Re: Superfly pole modification using bamboo

Nice job on the pole mod. I really like the use of bamboo. I am going to have to try this one.
    Two questions:
    1) Can you get the desired length and end close to one of the joints at the pull outs? (This would make it stronger where you are trying to split it.)
    2) Could you just notch the end enough to fit the line through it and skip the arrow nock? (If you whip the end with gel spun thread and cover with epoxy, it should be strong enough to hold. It would be even stronger at the joint.)

For #1. Given enough bamboo to choose from you certainly could have the bamboo joints (I call them nodes) at the ends. The length of 54" is not critical. The poles could be a little shorter or much longer with obvious trade-offs.

For #2. If the end diameter is large enough you could definitely notch and whip the ends. Native Americans have made arrows this way for centuries. I plan to use this method on version 2.

You could probly get a couple carbon fiber arrows from walmart and make a lighter spreader bar

    Great mod.

There is tons of bamboo growing wild here. Does anyone know what you do to season it after it is harvested?
