I think the Philistines used that style of sling to throw whoopie pies to Goliath.
That's how David caught him off guard. Goliath thought it was snack time.

    Please forgive my blaspheme.

Who came up with the name Whoopie Sling?

When I first started in arbor cultural work it was very confusing. We have the whoopies slings, ( though these guys are made out 2" hollow braid), then we have loopies(which are like a adjustable continual loop with a bury) then we have loop runners( flat webbing sewn to make a circle. It was all very confusion.

Not sure. That is just what all of my professors have told me so far that assigned research papers. Few of them even said that they mark off 50% for having a wiki reference. If it was just one professor then it would be one thing but all of them have stated the same thing.

Academia is one of the slowest areas to adapt to technology. I used to laugh at the stuff they were teaching in computer science - everything they taught was five years old. A lot of this has to do with the fact that technology develops at a much faster pace than it takes education to approve a new textbook.

It was fine for educators to say that Wikipedia was not as reliable as Encyclopedia Brittanica back in the day, but it's time they woke up and smelled the coffee. By the time education realizes that Wikipedia is acceptable, Encyclopedia Brittanica will no longer exist.

I'm a bit disappointed I can't find more info on the origins of the whoopie sling on the Internet, however. It's as if they didn't exist before 2009, and I don't think that's the case.

still common... the thing about wiki is that anyone can alter it... one guy even posted a fake quote on the wiki page about a writer who had recently died... 100's of news stations around the world used that quote on their reporting of this writer... and it was all part of some guys thesis on "don't trust anything you read on the internet"

but then again, can you trust what i'm saying???

Funny thing is I'd buy a set of encyclopedias like I had as a kid if I could. I have a lot of fond memories on rainy days when I couldn't (read as wasn't allowed) to get out, sitting in my hall at home reading page after page and learning the most interesting things.

Kinda hate my kids will never experience that.
