It was fine for educators to say that Wikipedia was not as reliable as Encyclopedia Brittanica back in the day, but it's time they woke up and smelled the coffee. By the time education realizes that Wikipedia is acceptable, Encyclopedia Brittanica will no longer exist.

I'm a bit disappointed I can't find more info on the origins of the whoopie sling on the Internet, however. It's as if they didn't exist before 2009, and I don't think that's the case.
    It's already too late.

I've heard a talk by a professor who wrote an article for Encyclopedia Britannica several years back. After that experience he realized that Wikipedia is as good (and sometimes better) than any set of Encyclopedias.

So any new findings on the origins of the term "whoopie sling"?
Might find it in an old sailing or aborests book..

And then you show up to Organic Chemistry and the professor tells you that wikipedia should be the first place you check, I guess it depends on the subject.

one of my professors likes to give people a research topic that he created a wiki page for. of course his wiki is completely false with false references. It amuses him when half the class fails the assignment and doesn't understand why.

Apology not accepted - we should be able to google "origins of whoopie sling" and find something. Very disappointing. So far we have gone back as far as 2004, but I just know that's not right.

Kinda hate my kids will never experience that.

Me too! I can still see some of the pages if I close my eyes and remember---funny how all that works!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
