    Underquilts.com shell filling down help?

    Hey guys viper here!
Well I decided to go with a UQ made shell then fill it because well it's cheaper. So I ordered a shell yesterday but I'm still not sure how many oz of down to put in it for a 0deg UQ? So if I post a pic of how I had them make it would someone be able to tell me how many oz of 850fp down I would need to get my 0deg temp I'm wanting? Thanks guys

    Calculate the volume (V): L * W * H = V (use inches)

Calculate Weight of down (W): Divide Volume by Fill Power of your down: V / Fp = W oz of down

Calculate adjusted Weight (W'): Conventional wisdom says overstuff 30% to prevent down migration and to account for any loss over time: W * 1.3 = W'

So if you have a 46" x 72" quilt with 3 inch baffles, and 850FP down:

    46 * 72 * 3 = 9936 / 850 = 11.7 * 1.3 = 15.2oz of down

Divide by number of chambers and fill equally.

It says weight for full length shells is 9.4, but shouldn't the different materials be a little less. Like an ARGON shell should be slightly lighter, correct? I wouldn't feel so bad stuffing 15oz of down into a 7-8oz shell and ending with something sub-24oz.
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

It's not peer pressure, it's just your turn.

Lost Biker will know, but I bet the weight listed is for a shell made of 1.1. Other materials will differ.
