    Hello from Fort Worth

Glad to find the forum. I'm moving from a tent to hammocks, and find this site (and Shug's videos) very helpful.

Of course, here in Texas we have entire time zones without trees, so I will never be completely off the ground, but the new job gives me an extra 15 days off a year, so I'm hoping to take longer trips to Arkansas and Missouri into the woods.

Also, from May to September its very warm, often 90-95 degrees at night, so I'm not too concerned about keeping warm. Any ideas about evaporative coolers for a hammock?

Next multi-day trip looks to be the Eagle Rock Loop solo in AR in November. I also do a log of overnights with my son (6 yrs old) and recently took over as an Outpost Leaderfor my church's Royal Rangers post (a church-based version of Boy Scouts founded by the Assemblies of God denomination). We'll be moving to more camping and camp craft in the post, and I expect several people will get interested when they see my hammock systems.

I'm moving to a over/under rig when packing with my son, so expect some questions on how to customize the setup. Right away I need to make a bug net that will cover both hammies.

Finally, I also like to bike pack (unsupported and partial-credit card touring when suitable campsites aren't in range) and occasionally camp out of a canoe or expedition kayak.

Welcome! Also from DFW. Check out the Trip Reports sub forum and also the Trip Planning, Southwest. For some of the hang outs. We had one just last weekend at Lone Star Hiking Trail, near Huntsville. A few of us hung out up at LBJ Grasslands in "The Pines" by Black Creek Lake a month back (it was 103 that day....dropped to a chilly 80 overnight)...... There are lots of places to "hang"

Do you have nieces or nephews in East Texas? Would you describe Fort Worth as East Texas? I'm just poking a little fun, welcome to the forum and life off the ground. Everyone in East Texas has an Aunt or Uncle that lives in Fort Worth...

I hiked it once at least 10 years ago shaking out some new equipment (long before my first hammock) from the North trailhead to the area the scouts use(used?) for group camping. I'll be sure and give it another look. Thanks.

Also, for the record, Fort Worth is "where the WEST begins!"

Good to know.... It has always grated on my inner compass that those from the "DFW" area refer to them selves as "East Texans".... Sheldon included.
