Hey guys, I've recently made my new SLS for my tarp. I really like the ease of using a figure 9 but wanted to have the same adjustability without using any hardware or knots. So this is what I've come up with. I'm sure it has been done before but here it is.
1) The fixed end is attached using a soft shackle attached via lark's head to a closed eye on 1.75 mm zing-it. This is wrapped around the tree and attached to the main line. (image 1)
2) 2 prusik knots allow the tarp to be attached and adjusted along the ridgeline(not shown).
3) The second attachment point is done using, in order, a soft shackle prusik attached to a UCR with a closed eye. (images 2 and 3)
I decided to go this route so that I can keep both points of attachment as close to the anchor point as possible so that I have as much possible ridgeline to work with. I have found it very easy to set up and adjust. It also seems to hold taught very well. Please let me know what you think.
Special thanks to Shug and his videos for introducing me to the concept. And Opie for his great demonstrations of the splices used here.
