Using a bugnet with an underquilt

Hey guys. I was thinking about making a shock-cord bottom bugnet until I thought about my underquilt and the insulation being crushed. So I came up with a variation that I want an opinion on. So I basically took "CrypticCricket's" idea and instead of putting a shock-cord at the bottom, magnets sewn into the fabric channel. What do you think???

My first thought was how do you determine what strength magnets you get? Too strong and you'll have problems getting in and out of the hammock, too weak and they won't hold. Other than that, looks like a plan.

That should work but using a shock-cord bottom bug net (Fronkey style) with an underquilt is really not a problem. It takes very little pressure to seal against the underquilt and really doesn't crush the insulation.

I was on trail this past weekend where it got down to 38 degrees. I use a fronkey style but net that I pulled up tight. I had no problems with compressing the down in the UQ. One nice thing about the shock cord is you just need to make it as tight as you need to make a light seal. The bug net opening does not have to be closed up completely just needs to make contact with the under quilt.

As the others have said, it's not a problem if the net is sized correctly. The sealing is done where the net contacts the top edges of the hammock as seen in this photo from the inside...

The bottom doesn't have to close up or be tight at all.

I also think that with the magnets, the bottom edges will hang down from the sides and not contact each other to close.

And...velcro tends to snag netting and is a poor choice. Use a draw cord to cinch the ends.

Nevertheless, it's this sort of creative brainstorming that has started many cottage industries. Gram weenies won't like the weight factor of magnets.
