    Knot challenge!

    Knot challenge:

I'm looking for a knot that wraps around to bunch a few items together but it must be:

    - tightenable by pulling the loose ends

    - such that once tightened it does not let go or loosen

    Thanks amigos,

    Migs

    Constrictor Knot

1.Make a turn around the object and bring the working end back over the standing part.
    2.Continue around behind the object.
3.Pass the working end over the standing part and then under the riding turn and standing part, forming an overhand knot under a riding turn.
4.Be sure the ends emerge between the two turns. Pull firmly on the ends to tighten.

The Canadian jam not is pretty good particularly for compressible things.

I used to use this knot with my tarp stakes.
Step 1- Wrap string around object.
Step 2- Wrap string around cord attached to object going down 4/5 times.
Step 3- Tie a knot at the bottom of the loops.
You might need to practice this one a little. It is a little sloppy, but it's fast; in the case of a rainstorm coming in, it can be very helpful, as opposed to the hangmans nuse.
PS: you might have to tighten it every eight hours or so.

As far as I can tell from this illustration:
    http://bladesandbushcraft.com/index.php?topic=1493.0
...the knot depends on friction and would loosen eventually.
i.e. If you pull on one side hard enough the line will slip eventually loosing the contents wrapped.

If I used this knot to secure some timber to a flat bed truck I would be very scared that the timber would eventually fall.

Is there something that will tighten but never release (or reverse)?

    Thanks amigos
