Hanging with dogs, what do your's sleep on?

In the past, my wife and I have been using a piece of tarp, but it's definitely not ideal. It's loud and provides no insulation from the ground.

My wife likes to quilt and we came up with the idea of quilting a 3'x3' or so pad using coated silnylon on the bottom and cotton on top. It would be a little heavier, but would be much more comfortable for the dogs. Protects some against the cold ground, protects against moisture from the ground and would be washable.

I've seen Fronkey's video where he uses a piece of building wrap, I believe it was. Is that what most use or have any of you come up with some clever ideas?

We pack an old 3/4 length thermarest, works well and not super heavy yet keeps him off the ground a bit.

Agreed, on the ground. If when it's time for bed they want something to sleep on, they're both known to make a nest out of straw or whatever's around.

So, lets get this straight..... while your all comfy in your hammock, with a top quilt and an underquilt along with the tarp and bugnet,, you let "mans best friend" and a part of the family not to mention one who protects you from all the critters that may be lurking about at night..... go without any kind of protection?

That's what mine prefers. Only time he'll sleep on a pad or bedding that I bring is if it's below freezing.

    Yes.

If it's that bad he don't go...nor do I come to think of it.

Maybe I should have been more specific for those unable to comprehend the intent of my asking the question. Allow me to clarify.

"For those of you that bring something for your dogs to sleep on while camping/hiking, what is it that you bring?"

If my dog prefered the dirt, I would certainly let it. I don't see an issue with bringing something that takes little to no effort that will make them more comfortable as well. My dog (a 90# black lab) get's put through plenty of horrible conditions during duck season. If he want's to sleep on something to insulate him from the cold and wet ground at night, I owe it to him. He works his tail off for me half the year.
