I did it in June of 1964. I expect the logistics have changed a bit since then, but I recall one thing. It was cold at 5 AM on the North Rim, and we weren't dressed for it. The paved road to the lodge was still warm from the previous day's sun, and we lay down on it. My buddy fell asleep almost instantly, but I woke him before a truck came along.
I've done a Grand Canyon trip ever year for the past 4 years. I generally don't hang except for maybe on top. I did a rim to rim last year. What kind of questions do you have?
We did not do a rim to rim just SR to Bright Angle CG but you should not plan on hammock use. Myself and 3 others did a trip in late February this year and while hammocks are not necessarily frowned upon they don't want you attaching anything at all to the trees in the park below the rim. Up top no problem but below you can't use them.
