    Q for XLC owners.

I am really considering an XLC for a few reasons.

1, I'm a tall guy and the additional length would benefit me I believe.

2, I only winter camp so I like the ability to change to the solid top.

    Here are my concerns.

1, It seems the solid top would be claustrophobic?

2, The foot box is made of net material (as I understand it) when the net top is used. It seems that the net material would tear much easier???

My concerns may be unfounded. Don't know.

Would like to here from XLC owners on this as well as Brandon if he wants to chime in.

I have both the WBBB and the XLC and much prefer the XLC. The top did give me some issues but so did the net when I first started sleeping in a hammock. As to the footbox there is no issue so long as you sleep closer to the head end as Brandon suggests. My only issue thus far is I wish the zipper was a little more heavy duty.

There's so much room in an XLC, it's a non-issue. But then again, I guess claustrophobia is a personal thing. What some folks might call snug and comfy could be uncomfortably confined to others. I guess you'd have to try one out to see how it felt to you. There's a lot of room under the cover, plus it's very thin and lets plenty of light in. It doesn't feel at all confining like I expected it to.

No problems here. I'm 6'2" and my feet hardly ever touch the netting. And if they do, they tend to be encased in fluffy down and covered with the slippery nylon of my top quilt at the time. I'm not the least bit worried about the netting at the foot box. Like you, I was at first, but once I slept in it a few times, I realized it's nothing to worry about.

I had the exact same concerns you did when I ordered my XLC. I wouldn't worry. Try one, you'll like it!

    Take it easy,

The zipper at the foot end is sewn directly to the netting of the footbox, this is no different than any other netted hammock, they all sew the zipper to the edge of the netting, i can't think of one model that doesn't except the regular Blackbird...so this would be no more of an issue than it would be in any other hammock and i've not heard of any issues with anybody's in this regard.

We did upgrade the zipper due to the plastic pin/box...had a couple issues so stepped up to the next size up which has a metal pin/box

At 6' I'm still a ways from any bug net, I have absolutely no concerns about touching it. As far a the top goes, the XLC is huge. Wait I mean HUGE, way bigger than any other hammock I've used. If anyone had any claustrophobic issues, I would suggest this over any other. It's not just the length, there is more vertical room due to the length.

The earliest ones have the slightly smaller zipper, we had 2 issues with the pin/box part of the zipper breaking so we switched to the next size up and have had no issues since...if you received an earlier one that has a plastic pin/box just be careful with it and you should be fine, if it does happen to break it's covered under warranty.
