    Ga/Sc>Burrells Ford>Oct. 25-27

Now that we have the dates and location sorted out this is the official North Ga Hang planning thread. Figured it'd be easier so people don't have to scroll through the other thread to find out when and where the hang is.

Since the hang is so close to Halloween if anyone plans on bringing kids let us know and maybe some of us can bring some candy and they can do a hammock to hammock trick or treating.

For those of you not familiar with this area, it's on the Chattooga River, which flows between GA and SC. From Walhalla SC, go north 8.5 miles on Hwy 28 to SC 107. Go right on Hwy 107 for 8.9 miles to Burrell's Ford Road (FR 708). Left on Burrell's Ford Road for 3 miles to Burrells Ford Campground parking area. Drive on past the parking lot for the campground and park at the bottom of the hill at the trailhead on the right. If you get to the river, you just passed it. We usually camp by the bridge where the East Fork River flows into the Chattooga. I think it's about a mile hike in to the site. You can also hike in from the Fish Hatchery, which on Hwy 107 a little past Burrell's Ford Road.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

For anyone coming in from the Clayton area, take Warwoman Rd until it dead ends into Hwy 28. Turn right and go 2-3 miles. Burrells ford rd will be on the left. Drive down Burrells Ford Rd about 6 miles until you cross the bridge. Park there, the trail will be on the left. If you see the campground you went too far.

I would call for info on that trail. The last I heard (which was not too recent) that trail had a bunch of downed Hemlocks and was difficult or impossible to hike.

The hike in from Burells Ford is extremely easy. I don't remember a single hill on the trail until you get close to the camp...but my memory fails me at times. Hope I can make this one!

This sounds like fun, though I'm totally new here. I'm in the area and would love to get out and hang out.

Curious how many of you have met up before, and how is the attitude toward total newcomers?

This was my first group hang just last April and I have wished every day since I was on my way there for another. This time I will fish if I can make it. Another commitment is causing me some conflict. As far as feeling like an outsider, well it does not happen. 30 minuets in and you are no longer a newcomer.

We've had several hangs since last fall and newcomers are always welcome. We've even kidnapped someone off the trail and brought them to the hang. Heck we even allow dirtnappers with their t**ts. There is a lot of gear talk and Sat or Sun morning there is usually a tour of homes where everyone walks around checking out each others rigs. It's a great place to meet hangers from our area and learn about a wide variety of set ups. And hear some great stories.
