Howdy,
I found my way here from Derek's outstanding Ultimate Hang book, which I learned about from kk.org/cooltools. It grabbed my attention because, though I've been a camper from way back (lots of camping for fun and for field work as a geologist), I've had a hiatus of many years due to a career change, cross-country moves, getting old and fat, etc.--and I miss it a LOT.
I'm hoping that now that we're settled down in central AZ (Prescott area), I can get back in the groove and that the hangin' way will make that groove a lot more comfortable. Being here so close to Flag, I'm also hoping very much to get to meet Derek sometime.
I don't even own a hammock yet, but after studying this and other websites, Derek's book, and spending time at the Shug University of Hammockage and Tarpular Arts, I'm getting close to deciding.
I've pretty much settled on a WBBB, probably a double 1.1. (Double so I can get started with my existing pad, which provides backup in case I have to go to ground in the more tree-free parts of the Colorado Plateau, my favorite area.) Haven't decided on whether to do the XLC or not, but I'm sure tempted by its versatility. Also haven't decided on which tarp--maybe I need to e-mail Warbonnetguy for some selection guidance.
Anyway, it's a pleasure meeting you all.
thanks,
vv
J.O.
