6 day solo trip in the BWCA

Just completed 6 days in the BWCA using my Clark UL hammock. The canoe is a '91 Sawyer Autumn Mist - a beautiful tripping canoe.

I used a KAQ New River UQ, which was bulky and probably overkill. I should have taken my Baby Orca, but I was worried about it not being warm enough.

I also used a CCS tarp - kinda' traditional in canoe country, but maybe unnecessary. Next time I'll try my Hex Tarp with the ENO hammock and bug net. That way I could leave the CCS tarp.

Awesome. I can't wait to get back to the BWCA next year.
EDIT. We were on Sawbill, Burnt, Smoke this summer. Love it. I would love to do the loop but I would need 2 weeks with my age and physical shape, plus I would want to fish every lake for a day.

Nice trip. I've been in that area and it has some real nice lakes and campsites.
I like the way the New River fits your Clark. I wonder if it would fit a Clark with spreader poles as well...

    Thanks for posting. Awesome pics.

I was particularly interested in your tarp pitching options, as I have a CCS tarp on its way to me, and just finished reading this post on Cdn Canoe Routes about ways of pitching them.
http://www.myccr.com/phpbbforum/view...ilit=tarpology. I wouldn't leave it behind to go lighter. A good tarp like that could be a lifesaver. What size is it?

Do they still measure portages in rods down there? Wow. You had me heading for Google. By any measurement, that's a tough portage.

Thanks again for taking us along.

Thanks for sharing - that looked like a wonderful trip.
Nice to look at the pics here on a Saturday am with my coffee.
The weather looked great, at least while you were taking photos

I'm sure when you found the small tree had fallen on the canoe your mind went to a bunch of 'what if' scenarios. Glad it all worked out for you.

Did you have any navigational / route finding challenges?

It look like you had a great trip. Me and family did a loop starting Brule going through cherokee, long island and winchell. Love those lakes.
