    Thermarest Haven

I just left my local REI and happened to stop in the SB section just to compare TQ and SB systems. In the clearance section they had a Thermarest Haven, which is essentially a mummy bag with a portion of the back cut out, and then the back is held together with shock cord. It has a sewn footbox and the works. 700 fill down, down to 20 degrees. Why are TQ's not made like this? This seems to me to be an ideal way to have a TQ. It was on uber clearance so I picked it up for the girlfriend. (I'm too tall for the regular length). ImageUploadedByTapatalk1379870471.446356.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1379870486.711468.jpg

    Interesting idea....
Does it have a zipper? How do you get in and out?

No zipper on it. It has a draw string on the wood so you can cinch it around your face. You get in by sticking your feet through the back down into the foot box, and lifting the rest of the bag over you and putting your head up through the back. Hope that makes sense. Its hard to explain, but extremly simple to get in and out of.

I picked one of these up from a friend at the start of the summer, so I haven't gotten a chance to test in cold weather yet, but I was able to do a couple of nights in near freezing weather. Here's a link to another thread about these quilts. Some good information.

Awesome, I'm glad to see I am not the only one to get a deal on it. I tried searching for a thread on this, but obviously my search skills need improvement. It seems like a good design to me, but time will tell. Now I just have to wait for mine to get here from MI. My girlfriend loves it, and spent a fair amount of time in it while laying on the couch this weekend. If anyone is interested these are going for about $125 in store. They may be tough to track down, but if you ask real nice, I'm sure the REI staff can get one sent out to you.

I will be testing mine on a 9 day boundary waters trip coming up in less than 2 weeks. Will report back the with details.

    Awkward Sportsman,

"I will be testing mine on a 9 day boundary waters trip ..." So you will be out for 9 days. Out of curiosity, what backup will you have if the test fails?
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
