    illume 15d fabrics

We are pleased to officially launch our new illume .9oz 15d DWR Nylon Ripstop fabrics. We have been shipping production quilts for the past two weeks with the new illume15 fabrics. Our goal with this fabric was to offer a true garment class fabric on our quilts while reducing weight, improving breath-ability and improving DWR finish. We required the fabric to have the strength and durability of our 1.1oz 30d fabric to provide for a robust product. We looked at many hyper-light fabric in the .65-.8 oz range and did not find a suitable fabric in terms of durability. The fabric needed to have a ripstop pattern which most of the hyper-light fabrics did not. We also required a good DWR and verified down proof from the fabric.

Once we narrowed down to a suitable candidate we requested some changes to the make up of the fabric for our needs resulting in a custom fabric made for UGQ.

We tested illume15 in house by making several mock up quilt panels as well as full quilt for field testing. On the mock up panels we performed a 10 cycle wash/dry to verify down proof and see how the DWR finish on the fabric performed over repeated wash cycles. No passing of spines, feathers, or down cluster were noted during testing. Our in house testing showed great results but for us we also wanted independent confirmation of the fabrics down proof properties. The test panels we made in house and tested were then shipped to International Down & Feather Labs in Salt Lake City for additional testing.

After our in house 10 cycle wash/dry the lab report from IDFL shows the fabric still well above average and very close to the top of the scale in it down proof properties. Good news for us and good news for you, knowing you are purchasing a quilt made with a fabric that has been independently tested for down proof. Making sure we did our due diligence with testing of this fabric was of utmost importance to us.

illume15 is currently available in three colors, Jet Black, Charcoal Grey, & Hunter Grey.

6 additional colors will be available late October

Mocha, Desert Tan, Burnt Orange, Aspen Yellow, Bossa Nova Red, & Moroccan Blue.

And for those of us who want camo; how long will that wait be?
If it moves, you can eat it. No promises you will think it tastes good.

CAMO is available by special order we have 25yards of MultiCam here in the house... No DigiCam or Woodland has been found suitable for down gear. The MultiCam is a 40d fabric, super finish and great looking pattern...

On the average,,how much weight we going to save on these new fabrics being used over the 1.1 ...say in a Reg. 20 degree top quilt? Sounds like very nice fabrics Paul.

Estimated weighs are current on our website but we are seeing roughly a 1 oz better than estimated with the quilts we have been shipping. We are weighing every quilt shipped currently verifying target weights. Our goal was not the lightest fabric possible but the best combination of weight, DWR, breath-ability, and durability for the end user. illume15 is a durable IDFL approved down proof fabric made to our specifications that our buyers can have faith will last for many years with normal use/care.

A regular 20*TQ 50X72 w/ 13oz 850GGD 21 oz give or take a few grams one way or another. We will confirm the actual build weights as more of these ship then we will adjust our specs on the website.

Won't take long as we are neck deep in orders...

Good to know your busy!!! And,,sounds to me like your going to be 3 to 4 oz lighter than using the 1.1 maybe, and that is awesome for the fabric.
